We need to take responsibility for gender violence
We need much more than talk shops - we need shelters and for the police to take a much harder line against the abusers.
YESTERDAY marked the end of the 16 days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign.
Government, business, civil society, faith-based organisations and the media all took part in the drive to increase awareness by putting gender violence in the spotlight.
On the South Coast prayer services, vigils, lunches, talks and wearing white ribbons and dressing in black on Thursdays appear to have been at the forefront of this year’s campaign.
Surely such events and gestures will do nothing to make women and children feel safer.
Every week the Herald carries horrific reports of abuse towards women and children.
We need much more than talk shops – we need shelters and for the police to take a much harder line against the abusers.
