We tell it as it is

Many South Coasters rant and complain if the Herald prints negative news, especially during the holiday season.

UGU District Municipality’s former deputy mayor, Ruth Bhengu, has requested journalists to be patriotic and not show  the country in a bad light.

Ironically, the call to turn a blind eye was made on the eve of World Press Freedom Day (May 3).

She is not alone in not wanting the truth exposed. Many South Coasters rant and complain if the Herald prints negative news, especially during the holiday season.

Journalists are not public relations officers. They are there to report, however unpalatable that might be. We cannot make up good news stories because there are visitors in town.

We have to act ethically and report the truth at all times.
