Floral fantasy at Hibiscus Mall

The show was a swirl of vivid colour.

ALFRED County Orchid Society once again held a splendid show at the Hibiscus Mall last Saturday.

The event attracted many orchid lovers who were able to feast their eyes on many different species and colours.

Martin Rautenbach, president of the Society, said the show was a huge success.

“The attendance at this year’s fair was outstanding,” he said. “Not even the weekend’s sporting events deterred showgoers.”

Interestingly, the word orchid is derived from the Greek ‘orkhis’, meaning testicle as the plant’s roots have a similar shape. Orchids are also related to the vanilla family.
