Networking to grow the film industry

Don't miss Ugu Film Festival's 'Music Opening Night' in Margate tonight.

IT’S not every day that business, government and the film industry sit around the breakfast table to network.

The Ugu Film Festival hosted its Business Breakfast Session at Umthunzi Hoteal and Conference venue this morning.

It was a great network session for local business owners, film industry (and even some international directors) and government who came together to discuss how local communities can benefit from the film festival and create employment opportunities in film.

Senzo Zindele, CEO of Sollywood Films, the organiser of the Film Festival, said his mission is to recruit and empower local people to be business-filmmakers.

The Ugu Film Festival is the brainchild of Senzo, a young man from Ezinqoleni who has travelled the world, learning, gathering and forming relationships with Hollywood film experts.

He said the annual film festival has so far created employment and he encouraged business people to get involved and help take the project a step further.

Be sure not to miss all the film festival action this weekend:

  • Daily free workshops and seminars will be held at Spiller’s Wharf. These will be facilitated by the crème de la crème of the film industry such as former generations star Xolile Tshabalala and Zenande Mfenyana, who is popularly known as Noluntu, to name a few.
  • For those who also love music a ‘Music Opening Night’ will be held at Backline Night Club tonight (Friday, September 11). Music lovers will be entertained by Zakwe, Bhar, DJ Sox, DJ 101, DJ Qhawe as well as local artists with guest appearances by Zenande Mfenyane, Lwandle Ngwenya, Xolile Tshabalala.
