Diwali celebrations delight
The general consensus was that the show was spectacular.
THE Port Shepstone Hindu Cultural Federation pulled out all the stops to ensure this year’s Diwali show was even better than its predecessors.
The concert was held at the Marburg Sports Complex last Saturday. Festivities kicked off with a colourful float parade through the streets of Port Shepstone’s central business district.
The procession started at Shoprite’s parking lot and made its way to the Port Shepstone Civic Centre where entertainers performed songs and dances. Lunch was served there as well. Thereafter all roads led to the sports complex for the celebrations.
Great north and south Indian music was rendered by one of Durban’s top bands, Taal Music Productions, while local cultural organisations also provided entertainment. Compere Nishe Sewlal of Durban kept the audience well entertained with her great sense of humour.
Ramesh Hassan, top bhangra vocalist, had the Port Shepstone crowds dancing to his songs. There were sketches, plays, songs and dances. Everyone enjoyed a scrumptious supper. Indeed, the highlight of the evening was the massive firework display. Local musicians Disco Fantasy ended the festivities with a bangra bash that carried on through to the early hours of Sunday.
