Floral artists celebrate
The South Coast Floral Art Club held a Christmas floral art show.
THE Margate Methodist Church hall was packed to capacity for the South Coast Floral Art Club’s Christmas show last Friday.
There were 10 exhibits by members of the club with the theme, ‘Christmas in a frame.’ Each member had innovative ideas, beautifully executed.
Guest speaker Pam Harvey, along with her assistant Hennie Hurbau, showed everyone how easy and virtually cost free it was to arrange long lasting Christmas decorations.
She used a fun selaginella kraussiana as her ‘tree’ and white pentas as ‘snow’. Her re-cycled floral oasis was covered in spagnum moss. A Christmas wreath followed and the gold baubles in a bowl shone through with little lights.
Sidney Neill, a local florist, certainly had the attention of everyone in the hall with his two arrangements, the turquoise orchids and crysanths and frames which he had cleverly cut out of polystyrene and sandwiched with a block of wood.
The raffle for the Christmas hamper was won by Maira Scholtz who also took the first lucky ticket prize of Pam Harvey’s Christmas wreath. There were 10 more lucky ticket prizes which ended the show on a high note.
Tea and coffee was served together with a wonderful array of sweet and savoury eats.
