Dancers delighted with exam results

The Elvira Venter School of Dance pupils are now rehearsing for their end-of-year show.

THERE were smiles all round when students from the Elvira Venter School of Dance received the results of their recent Hip Hop Performance Tests, Red Medal Tests and Modern Dance Examinations.

The results were most impressive and their teacher, Elvira Venter, was thrilled.

“Many of the students did examinations for the first time, so that is an added reason to be proud of them all,” she said.

She added that the dancers were still hard at work as their end-of-year production, ‘Razzmatazz’, was coming up soon. This lively review highlights many different forms of dance. It will be staged at the Uvongo Town Hall on December 1 and 2, at 7pm.

The dance examination results were as follows:

In the Red Medal category Yvonne Buitendag, Jo-Ane van Schalkwyk and Tregan Schoeman received a commended result of 70 percent and over. Joy-Rose Zaayman and Zonique du Plooy were highly commended (80 percent). San-Mari van den Berg, Larissa Korf, LeReese Oelofse and Janie Bester received honours (85 percent).

In the Hip Hop tests, Katelyn Cruden and Gizelle Victor received a ‘big up’ score of 60 percent. Tinkie Zaayman, Kayla Jacobs, Samantha Pauley, Desiree du Plooy, Saskia Dantuma, Janine Oosthuizen and Vicky Oswin received an ‘xtreme’ score of 70 percent. Monique Joubert was ‘awesome’ with 80 percent.

‘Fly’ category dancers with 90 percent were Marie du Plessis, Wilmare Labuschagne, Janus Wagenaar and Michelle Kretzschmar, Top ‘da bomb’scorers with 100 percent were Martilize Havenga, Carl Caroto, Renier Jacobs, McKayla du Bruyn, Surina Havenga, Kathlene Evans and Cara du Plessis,

Moving on to the Modern Dance examinations, Grade 1 student Saskia Dantuma earned 90 percent or more and honours with distinction. LeReese Oelofse, Jo-Ane van Schalkwyk received honours and 85 percent. Cassidy Massey and Bree Bellenger wre highly commended with 80 percent and Nicole Elam and Emily Bezuidenhout were commended with 70 percent. Tiamari de Jager and Hailey Bezuidenhout received pass pluses with 60 percent.

In the Grade 11 exams Marie du Plessis was highly commended with 85 percent.

Final Grade students McKayla du Bruyn received honours with distinction, a score of 90 percent. Surina Havenga earned honours and 85 percent and Wilmare Labuschagne, Carla Kretzschmar, Kiara Nandhoo, and Janine Oosthuizen were highly commended with 80 percent. Danica Burke and Nicole Janse van Vuuren were commended with 70 percent.

In the Preliminary Modern Vicky Oswin was highly commended with 80 percent and Michelle Kretzschmar was commended with 70 percent.

Senior Level 1 examination candidate Natasha Sampathmany was commended, with 75 percent.

Elementary students Kathlene Evans and Marizane Wagenaar were commended with 75 percent.
