4 Benefits of being born black
More and more black people are starting to celebrate black pride and are flaunting their genetic inheritance.
SEPTEMBER is Heritage Month in South Africa, and the theme for this year’s Heritage Month is ‘Passing the Torch’.
A few black millennials believe that this month, they should appreciate the benefits of being black. Benefits that are genetic, and that make them proud of being black.
Thando Mabaso, who loves her black skin said, ”I love the fact that I was born black, I have melanin protection for life. I’d like to believe that my melanin will give me increased resistance to aging, sunburn and wrinkles,” she said.

Sizophila Khumalo who loves her African hair said, the one thing she loves about being black is the versatile hair she was born with. “When black people choose to ‘rock’ their natural hair, they have the option to wear their hair in some of the most versatile styles compared to other races,” said Sizophila.

The term that has been trending a lot on social media ‘Black don’t crack’ means that according to research, African skin does not wrinkle and show age as much as the skin of those from other ethnic backgrounds. The other benefit could be a long lasting youthful look.

Khulekani Ngubeni who is an athletics fan of note said, ”As black people we inherited athletic advantage. Most black people have longer limbs. Our physical difference gives us black athletes, a better advantage,” he explained.
