WATCH: How to carve a pumpkin this Halloween

Pumpkin carving is a fun Halloween tradition that's popular among both children and adults.

What you need: 

  • Medium-sized pumpkin (or as many as you want to carve)
  • Brown paper grocery bags, newsprint, or butcher paper
  • Permanent marker

  • A sharp knife (to be used with EXTREME caution)
  • Two medium bowls (one for seeds, one for pumpkin guts)
  • Kitchen towel
  • Tea light candle and long match or lighter with extended nozzle

Instructions:

  1. Set up your workspace.
  2. Draw your design.
  3. Draw your lid.
  4. Cut out the pumpkin lid.
  5. Remove the pumpkin seeds.
  6. Scoop out the insides of the pumpkin.
  7. Wipe off the pumpkin. 
  8. Cut out the design.
  9. Clean up the details.
  10. Light your pumpkin. 
  11. Make roasted pumpkin seeds.
