Kidney stones: 11 Lines of defence
For some it can take months of patience and pain to pass a stone.

Although doctors aren’t necessarily sure why people form these little crystals of salt and minerals in their kidneys, one thing is clear: they hurt.
Dr Stevan Streem, writing for The Doctors Book of Home Remedies, suggests some ideas that may help.
1. Drink lots of fluid.
2. Keep a cap on your calcium.
3. Check your stomach medicine.
4. Don’t eat too many oxalate-rich foods.
5. Try magnesium and B6.
6. Eat vitamin A-rich foods.

7. Stay active.
8. Watch your protein intake.
9. Lay off the salt.
10. Restrict your vitamin C.
11. Don’t get too much vitamin D.
