Why flies are vile and how to get rid of them

Did you know: Flies vomit on anything and everything they land on - including your food!

WE HATE them, want to kill them and wish they’d just disappear of the face of the earth. It’s not a ‘who’, it’s a ‘what’. It’s flies.

Most people can’t stand flies because they’re extremely dirty and, of course, noisy. For those who are clueless on how vile these
insects actually are, brace yourselves.

1 They’re dirty because they feed off of anything and everything ranging from our home cooked meals to faeces.

2 They add a little personal touch to their food by vomiting on it before actually consuming it. One way to spice it up!

3 An average female lays an estimated 500 eggs in a three to four days, which takes a 10-14 day period to hatch.

4 The average lifespan of a fly is 30 days, of which most of it is spent with us.

5 Flies have two eyes, but with 4000 smaller eyes in each one.

6 Flies are known to defecate every four to five minutes on anything that comes their way.

Seeing that we aren’t able to get rid of them, we might as well learn to live with or, better yet, control them.

  • Try to cover all food products whenever you can;
  • don’t allow garbage bins to overflow or you may just be hosting a breeding ground soon enough;
  • clean up after pets outdoors;
  • try to grow fly repellent plants such as basil and lavender;
  • use sticky flypaper strips
  • make use of citronella candles.

If all else fails, unleash your inner murderer, go to your local supermarket and purchase several cans of insecticide.

That’s bound to work.
