Superstitions some people still believe today

One of these is even said to be way of conjuring up the devil.

HALLOWEEN HAS come and gone, but the superstitions remain.

Here are a few freaky food-related superstitions we found on Crush, that have been around since forever and are probably even still believed by some today:

• Spilling salt – Most people believe that even the slightest spillage of salt is bad luck. What’s even stranger is the belief that throwing salt over your left shoulder into the eye of the devil, who is always standing behind you, will distract him from stealing your soul.

• Egg shells – After breaking an egg, smash the shell before throwing it away as it it’s believed that a witch will gather up the shells, make a boat, set sail and unleash terrible storms at sea.

• Bread – If you’re baking bread and it doesn’t rise, the devil could quite possibly be sitting on it. Apparently, if you don’t mark a cross at the top of your loaf before baking, the devil will make himself at home on your bread and will prevent it from rising.

• Knives – These are believed to ruin relationships when gifted. The best way to prevent this from happening is to give someone a coin in exchange for the knife so it looks as if you’re buying it rather than having it given to you.

• Tea – It is believed that if you pour milk into your tea before your sugar, you may never get married. However, undissolved sugar at the bottom of the cup may mean that someone is in love with you. Also, be careful when stirring your tea because if you stir anticlockwise, you conjure up the devil.

• Coffee – Coffee is believed to solve your financial status. When you eat bubbles at the top of your stirred coffee, it will apparently bring you good luck and potentially some bucks.

• Noodles – Noodles are said to represent long life in Chinese culture so cutting or biting into noodles will mean you’ll be cutting your life short. Slurp your noodles instead.

• Onions – Do not drop onions when working with them as you could be dropping all good luck.
