Meet Hangman’s Jessey Matlou: Bringing sass and sizzle to business

Born in Lagos Nigeria, she considers herself a pan Africanist. She’s fun loving and always keen to learn. And Hangman has been a steep learning curve for her.

If you’ve watched SA’s new hot reality show Hangman on ETV and SA’s latest entertainment platform black, then there’s no doubt that you would have noticed the very sexy Jessey Matlou who took complex business terms and explained them in an engaging and sassy way that is unforgettable.

“I loved doing the Big short styled business jargon pieces,” says Jessey.  “Great fun and the end result was great info-tainment.”

“What a liked about her,” says Hangman Creative Director Billy White, “she’s new, she’s not over exposed and she’s incredibly versatile.”

She also features as the unforgiving task mistress in the series – delivering the weekly tasks to the contestants with her no-nonsense almost military presentation.

“Being a task master on Hangman has been absolutely intriguing, challenging and fun working with the great team. I especially enjoyed the attentiveness of the contestants when the tasks were given. It was awesome to see my words carrying so much weight for the contestants and playing an important role on the show,” says Jessey.

“She managed to pull off multiple characters from serious and corporate to sassy and quirky,” says Billy.

Jessey is no newcomer to the limelight – she started her career in front of the camera in 2011 when she featured in the Chevvy Spark ad.  In 2013 she featured on the ETV sisterhood Top 10 Presenter Search.

“The presenter search was one of the most grueling yet, wonderful periods in my life with a lot of self-discovery.”

She is currently also the L’Oreal Restore Plus Face of the Brand.

“Hangman taught me a lot about business, as a young woman with business aspirations I was rather astonished by how much I still didn’t know, what it takes to start a business and continuously build it.”

And of course as a presenter she grew in confidence in front of the camera letting her playful personality shine through.

“In terms of the future I hope that this is a stepping stone to a promising career for me in television and radio.  Hangman was such an amazing platform for me and an affirmation that this is what I am meant to do. Still learning, still growing, there’s nothing but greatness still to come,” says a beaming Jessey.

The full Hangman series is also available on newly launched entertainment and content platform, black. South Africans can download the GETblack Android & iOS apps using a tablet or phone.

It will also available on a web interface at www.black.co.za.
