Fashion predictions for 2018: What should you be wearing to ring in the New Year?

The holidays mean that trends, seasonality and the pesky ‘rule book’ can be tossed away, with party frocks and glitter the order of the day. Now is the time to play.

Formerly the fashion and beauty director at Marie Claire, now fashion director at Superbalist.com, Kelly Fung is an authority on all things fashion-focused.

This festive season, the indomitable industry influencer predicts that sparkle) is in and predictability is out.

The holidays mean that trends, seasonality and the pesky ‘rule book’ can be tossed away, with party frocks and glitter the order of the day. Now is the time to play.

Expanding on festive season fashion, Fung says:

It’s really all about play time; if your wardrobe usually consists of black and white, time to try a bright pink statement heel. Always in trousers? Give it a go in a pleated skirt, in a daring glitter fabric of course. Now’s the time to really experiment, the bolder the better, because why not? It’s celebration time.

And what should you be wearing to ring in the New Year?

It doesn’t matter, because the biggest trend of 2018 is YOU!

Fung says it’s all about individuality.

2018 sees a continued embrace of identity and individuality; it’s about really expressing who you are through what you wear. Rather than specific trends, designers and fashion houses have been exploring inclusivity of skin colour, age and sexuality – this social consciousness has been seen from catwalk to checkout cart. In short, it doesn’t matter what you wear, as long as you’re sporting the real you.
