When mould takes hold ….. clean your appliances in one easy step

Many people are affected by ailments like asthma, chronic allergies or inflammations that can directly be linked to moulds.

MOULD forms everywhere – even in the equipment that we use to clean other things with. Moulds are dangerous because they spawn many types of airborne bacteria that leads to respiratory diseases and inflammations.

Humidity always exacerbates the problem because mould thrives in moisture. When living on the coast, it becomes imperative that you keep an eye out for moulds, especially inside household appliances. Use this simple mixture to minimise the risk of moulds taking hold in washing machines, dishwashers, etc.

The solution:-

3 litres of water
1 cup lemon juice
1 cup hydrogen peroxide (not lower than 20 volume)

Simply mix everything together and decant some of the liquid into a spray bottle to easily access hard-to-get-to places inside the appliance. Start by dipping a cleaning cloth into the mixture and wipe down all plastic seals, surfaces and hoses – basically anywhere you see mould forming.

Use the spray and an old toothbrush to get behind seals and plastic ‘lips’ or edges. Keep rinsing and dipping the cloth. Wipe inside the drum and once you are satisfied that most of the mould is gone, run an empty, hot washing cycle using half a cup of laundry liquid (or powder) and half a cup of bicarbonate of soda, which will absorb odours.

Remember to discard the water in the dish. Clean your washing machine and other appliances regularly to prevent mould taking hold. You will see … and smell … the difference!
