Testing times for SA Car of the Year finalists

In just over a month's time the winner will be known.

The 10 stars of the show were last week put to the test in the 2018 WesBank South African Car of the Year competition.

The were put through their paces during an extensive evaluation period for two days, held at Kyalami and Velmore Hotel & Spa.

Finalists are, in alphabetical order: Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0 Base; Audi Q5 2.0 TDI 140kW quattro S tronic Sport; BMW 520d Steptronic; Kia Picanto 1.0 SMART; Land Rover Discovery Td6 HSE; Peugeot 3008 SUV GT Line + 1.6 THP Auto; Porsche Panamera 4; Suzuki Ignis 1.2 GLX; Toyota C-HR Plus 1.2T 6MT; Volvo S90 D5 Inscription AWD Geartronic.

They were evaluated by 26 jury members, with four assistant jury members on board to learn and assist.

The competition is based on the principle of automotive excellence. Ultimately, the winning car must adhere to key elements around this concept.

The winner will be announced at a cocktail banquet, to be hosted by WesBank in Johannesburg, on Tuesday, March 13.
