Celebrity Birthdays – April 4: Marvel’s Iron Man – Robert Downey Jr.

Who do you share a birthday with today?

• Robert John Downey Jr. (53) – American actor and singer.

Widely recognised today as the Marvel Comic character – Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. made his acting debut at the age of five in his father’s very own film, Pound, in 1970.

He made several other appearances in films such as Brat Pack, Weird Science and Less Than Zero.

When he starred as the main character in Chaplin in 1992, Robert earned himself a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor and won himself a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.

The actor had his fair share of troubles with drug abuse too. In 2000 he was released from the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison where he was on drug charges.

After he left that life behind and was sober for some time, he got back into the acting routine. He featured in other films such as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Zodiac and Tropic Thunder.

Towards the beginning of 2008, Robert landed the role of Marvel Comic’s Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His portrayal of the character was a major success and lead to a total of three Iron man movies, as well as the character having key roles and cameos in other movies such as The Avengers movies, Captain America: Civil War and Spiderman Homecoming.

Another iconic role Robert played, was the title character in Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes in 2009.

Religion wise, Robert is a “Jewish-Buddhist” and studies astrology. It has also been noticed that in the past, he developed an interest in Christianity and the Hare Krishna movement.
