8 Bad habits which may stand between you and a promotion
You may be subconsciously irritating your boss and co-workers.

Take a look at some of the mistakes that could be hurting your chances of promotion:
- Dragging your feet – this indicates that you are either disinterested, lazy or tired.
- Do not mistake staring for eye contact – a healthy eye contact in a professional environment is about 60 per cent. More than that may be construed as intimidating.
- Slumping in your seat – always practice good posture, whether standing or sitting.
- Avoid nervous habits – don’t play with your hair, bite your nails or crack your knuckles.
- Tapping your feet on the ground or your fingers on the desk – these gestures suggest that you are daydreaming, impatient or bored.
- Not giving a good handshake – handshakes say a lot about one’s personality, so never give a weak handshake.
- Inappropriate use of cellphone – avoid checking your phone every few minutes and never answer your a call during a meeting.
- Crossing your arms – this may be seen as a ‘don’t disturb me’ gesture, especially in meetings and discussions.
