Hot on the heels of the recent successful release of her single, “Answer”, popular singer Jessica Chaz released her debut 6 track EP (Dreamin’) on June 1.

Commenting on the inspiration behind the record, Jessica said: “The inspiration behind Dreamin’, is about the journey of fulfilling a dream. It didn’t start out as the plan in general but when we heard the theme of each song and listened to the sentiment of the society and the people around us, it made sense that the now title track Dreamin’ became one of my favorites and the title of the EP. Dreamin’ talks about the struggle that I went through and that we heard so many people around us talking about – the struggle of deciding to take a chance on a dream,” she said.

I feel like because I listened to an eclectic mix of music growing up, you will hear are a few musical influences on this EP. Ranging from country, to R n’ B to Reggae to Pop. I grew up listening to gospel music, Stevie Wonder, Celine Dion, Queen, Cliff Richard, John Denver, Elvis Presley and the list goes on and I think that is evident in my music, – said Jessica.

There are six tracks on the EP. It was co-produced by Jessica Chaz and Vanessa Moodley, and mixed by Greg Bedford in Durban. The album was recorded in South Africa, Canada and the U.S.

The “Dreamin’ EP is now available at all major digital stores including iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Music, Spotify, Deezer, Tidal & Youtube.

We heard the exciting news that Spotify has landed in South Africa, you can definitely follow Chaz and listen to her music there. Physical CD’s & some awesome merch will be available through the store on her website www.jessicachaz.co.za where Chaz will be mailing them out personally to say thank you for all your support.

Jessica’s releases come from Moodlab Music – an independent label founded by Jessica and her sister Vanessa Moodley.

The label has been hard at work with the objective of not only bringing fresh and authentic sounds to music lovers, but also to provide more opportunities for female artists.

Vanessa Moodley said: “I’ve had incredible experiences over the years teaching and performing at various music schools and churches in and around KZN, and what stood out to me, no matter the level of education, is the incredible talent, passion and perseverance of the youth of our country. It is a passion that Jess & I know personally, that has been a big part of our decision making in starting an indie label.”

“Across ten years in the industry, as young women of colour, we saw that we were surrounded by executives and decision makers that might not understand our passions and value so we decided to create opportunity for ourselves when no one else would. We want to spend time developing a path for ourselves and to share that path with other young women who might find themselves in the same position. We want to encourage our peers in the same way – you own your destiny. Our choices as the youth will shape the opportunity of our future. Let’s get to work to make sure we have them. We  believe that we can achieve anything that we set our minds to with the support of each other,” added Vanessa.

Brief Biography: Jessica Chaz

Dynamite singer-songwriter, Jessica Chaz is a performing artist with a unique vocal talent. A Vancouver based beauty born and raised in Durban, South Africa, Jessica’s passion for music started out by singing harmonies and bass lines to TV ads as a child. Throughout her early school years, she tried out different instruments always interested in the groove and beat behind the music.

Jessica faced a few curve balls which brought her to the moment when she realized that music was part of her destiny. She began to feel an increasing resolve that she was born to be a musician, an artist who was meant to touch people’s lives through her music. She explains, “No matter what was going on in my life, singing was the one thing I could do, so I fell into it and stayed there.” For Jessica, music is where her purpose lies. She feels her journey to date has been to prepare her for what she is about to do. With determination and a voice that stays with you long after you’ve heard it.

Jessica dropped singles Answer and Crossroads in May, ahead of the full EP release. These singles received a warm public response. Answer was also playlisted in South Africa on Durban Youth Radio, LotusFM, Jamza Radio and Skye Radio.
