Support the Phendulani Literary Quiz this Thursday

The quiz is a fun way to get young children involved and excited about reading.

Children from under-resourced schools on the Lower South Coast will put their literacy skills to the test when they compete at the Phendulani Literary Quiz at St Simon’s Church in Trafalgar on Thursday, October 25 from 8.30am to 12.30pm.

The quiz was founded in 2008 by Marj Brown, a librarian with a background in English, history and maths, to help schools and teachers develop literacy. It began with10 schools and now has more than 100 taking part.

Marj Brown commented “Phendulani was started because there is a lack of basic literacy in South Africa. There is a desperate need to enhance comprehension skills of children who do not necessarily have access to libraries or reading material to help educate them.”
