Wednesday was apparently the official first day of spring where the daylight hours were the same length as the night time hours, now for some late afternoon golf at Scottburgh Golf Club.
Friendships can be strengthened or diminished in the game of Combined Stableford which we played on Wednesday.
“Is my friend on the green or is the fool in the bunker” has often been said.
Jason Gilliver must have thought something along those lines as partner Mikhail van Brakel’s tee shot on the first didn’t make it past the ‘forward’ tee.
Nevertheless the single figure handicappers strolled around and won with a 64 point aggregate over second placed Denis Brown and Tony Power with 62.
Just to rub it in Jason also rolled in two 2-clubs with Anton Visage and Mike Hogan claiming the Stone.
P&G sponsored the prizes for Saturday afternoons golf thanks again to Paul and Gina Tedder.
The field was boosted by an influx of upcountry visitors who took advantage of the long weekend and our balmy weather, pity the wind didn’t play ball although it did in some cases.
Ian Walker and partner Hilton McAuliffe posted a 41 point target that was almost matched by Barry Kisten and Doc Mahabeer with 40 with Graham Brown and Tony Power third with 39 on a count out.
Brian Richards and Tony Power took nearest the pin prizes with Doc making a 2-club from the bunker on the second and Graham Brown making two more.
Once again Anton Visage took the weight of the Stone this time with Dave Sirey along to help.
On Wednesday it’s an Individual Stableford and it’s Heno’s birthday bash on Saturday. Linda Hall will be celebrating her birthday on the October 9 with a sponsored game to be announced.
Flyer’s footnote: At first a golfer excuses his dismal performance on poor lies, with experience he covers up with better ones.
