They also provided non-perishable items in bulk for the organisation's mass feeding programme.
Gratiari Social Development and Education, a registered local non-profit organisation, has lost Vishal Maharaj, one of its founders and director, who died earlier this year.
Maharaj was a key roleplayer in local food relief and in the fight against gender-based violence.
He was also an activist for early childhood development.
His death has left a huge void and he has been greatly missed by all, especially his family and those who worked with him every day.
Yet, despite the sadness, there has been a silver lining in that his son Ari, aged only five, already seems to be following in his father’s footsteps.
Recently, some matrics from Southcity Christian Schools and church initiated a food drive, where they collected and packaged parcels for 52 local families in need.
They also provided non-perishable items in bulk for the organisation’s mass feeding programme.
Ari helped collect and receive the food parcels and bulk food for distribution on behalf of Gratiari.
His mother, Sonia van Niekerk-Maharaj, and members of Gratiari, extended their deepest gratitude and respect to Southcity Schools and church, who assisted in the worst of times in order for the organisation to keep the programme running.
