Brenda swings her way to silver open division golf success

AMANZIMTOTI Golf Club’s women’s section was well represented at the South Coast region LGA’s annual championships at Margate on Sunday, 28 July, played over 36 holes.
The club is chuffed Brenda Morgan won the silver open division and was also runner-up in the silver closed division. A wonderful result, well done to all the women who competed and had to cope with rather horrid, windy and cold conditions.
Due to the championships, the women had a smallish field on Saturday afternoon in the IPS with bingo, bongo and bango points being added for first on the green, closest to the pin and first to hole out. The winner was Charmain Stone on 60 points, followed by Delene Berry on 56.
The men played individual stableford on Saturday afternoon, with Grant Harris providing solid proof his arm surgery was successful by shooting a fine 45 points. Following him was Pat Vickers on 44 and Mark Brodie on 43, who counted out Buff Berry.
Nearest the pin on the seventh and 17th were Peter Dalton and Kenny Commings respectively. The attendance draw was won by Mike Cockrell.
Mike Lawrence took first place on Wednesday with a stylish 41 points, followed by J van der Merwe on 40 points.
The Friday meat was won convincingly by Naren Manichund on 22 points, with Colin Balliram beating Devan Govender into third place on a count out, both scoring 20 points.
This Sunday, 4 August, Amanzimtoti hosts the final of the KZNLGA inter-region competition, and the Mkuhla team, which includes Toti’s own Liz Donald, will compete for the silverware. If you are keen to see some seriously good golf, go and watch these women in action.
The final is played over 36 holes, the first 18 being betterball and the afternoon round as foursomes. Good luck to the South Coast region team.
The women’s inter-club fundraising golf day takes place on Friday, 9 August. The format is 4BBB, with any combination of players. The cost is R150 per player, which includes a light snack after the game.
