Toti development halted
ETHEKWINI Municipality has halted construction at a building site in Wanda Cele Road, Amanzimtoti, after it was established the developer was in contravention of the National Building Regulation.

“Building plans were submitted and approved for a dwelling unit. It was later noted that work on the site proceeded beyond the approved plan without notification to the municipality. The department received a complaint, investigated and instituted immediate action in terms of the National Building Regulation,” said municipal spokesman, Thabo Mofokeng.
“A copy of the engineering plan was requested and obtained from the developer, which clearly indicated the intent to build shops. Notices of non-compliance were issued to the developer to cease work on the site on 6 November.
The developer came to the municipal offices on 7 November and was advised in the presence of the building inspector that all work needed to cease on site and an amended plan had to be submitted for consideration.
On 8 November, the developer returned to the municipal offices very angry and threatened an employee in full view of staff. The incident was reported to management and the legal department and was also referred to the enforcement branch for further action.”
