SPCA needs support to sustain outreach project
Toti SPCA has started its outreach sterilisation programme again.
“The programme has been running since 2011 and to date we have managed to sterilise just over 800 animals,” said manager, Tracey Girling.
The SPCA collects animals in the rural areas and vaccinates them, treats them for internal and external parasites and sterilises. It then delivers them back home with food and blankets if needed. Toti SPCA covers an area from the Umlaas canal to Hibberdene and 35km inland.
“We help other animal organisations like 4 Paws and a Tail to sterilise the animals they feed in the Umkomaas and Craigieburn area.
This programme is partially funded by the Department of Agriculture, but does not even cover the cost of the vaccinations and dewormers, so we appeal to the public to support our thrift and book shops at the SPCA and to donate any unwanted items for us to sell to help raise funds to continue this vital project.”
