Pupils brush up on art skills in library contest

Budding young artists were given the opportunity to showcase their talent at an art competition hosted by Amanzimtoti library, which culminated in a prize-giving on Thursday, 20 March.

The competition, celebrating 20 years of democracy in South Africa, was open to pupils of Dr Made Senior Primary and Mbambangwe High schools.

“The competition made pupils think of the theme,” said Jean Taylor of the Upper South Coast Art Association (USCAA), which sponsored the competition.

“Despite the limitations of materials and experience, the pupils did very well and the drawings were delightful,” said Jean, who hopes the competition will be ongoing.

First place prizes were awarded to Luyanda Ncube (12 to 13 years), Siyabonga Dube (14 to 15 years) and Sfundo Mngoma (17 to 18 years).

Unfortunately Luyanda and Siyabonga were absent and could not accept their prizes of art materials in person.
