Champ’s tale re-told

Animal welfare organisation rescues starving dog.

NON-PROFIT animal welfare organisation, 4 Paws and a Tale Rescue picked up a dog in a terrible condition in Umkomaas recently.

He has been named Champ and this is his story:

“I was cold and hungry, lost and alone, hoping that someone kind would see me and take me to a warm, comfy, quiet and safe place. As I was wandering the streets of Umkomaas, I saw the other dogs behind their gates, fat and happy, I sent up so many prayers that some day I will be one of them too. I don’t know what I did wrong, why I had to suffer.

I was walking along the beach when I saw people coming towards me. I was so scared, what if they take me back?! I don’t want to be tied up again, I don’t want to have to live that way! Praying, I let them take me, I let them take the rope off around my neck, as they put me in their car.

The drive was so nerve-wracking, I didn’t know where I was or where I was going. All I could do was hope. So I closed my eyes and enjoyed the comfort of the soft seat and warm car. Who knows when I will get to experience that again?

When they stopped, I heard dogs barking. I was so tired by now I didn’t fight them when they took me out. Warm hands gently took me into a building and put me onto a table, where a man touched me and talked to me and finally took me to a spot at the back. I heard them call it a kennel, and they softly put me onto a warm blanket. I met another lady who had the softest hands. She spoke to me so gently and I still wondered what was going on, but enjoyed the full tummy and soft blanket, even the annoying neighbours. I wondered until she said the best words I’ve ever heard, ‘you’re safe now.’

They say my skin needs time to heal, and I need to put on weight, then my new family will just fall in love and take me to a life of yummy food, laughter, love and play. I would even have my very own bed and get loads of treats…and hear this – they say I will get all of this simply because I am me, because I deserve it. How awesome is that.

I will let you all know what happens, I am getting so excited for my new life.”

Love Champ
