AN Illovo Beach resident is furious after eThekwini Municipality workers cut down plants in his yard without permission and left the cuttings on top of his prized bromelia plants.
Chris Hitchcock said he was at work on Thursday, 24 April when the workers arrived at his Station Road premises to repair overhead cables.
“My landlady phoned me to say they were there, but I couldn’t leave my job,” said Chris.
When he returned home, he was dismayed to find the workers had chopped down cacti without asking permission, but worse, had left the cuttings where they had fallen on his bromelia.
“They must have thought the cacti were weeds,” said Chris. “They also trampled over my plants and they haven’t been back since to clean up their mess.”
Chris visited the municipality offices in Winklespruit to complain, but he was sent from one department to another, with no success.
