Hospice volunteer’s big walk raises big money

Lorraine Wilson raised over R11,000.

Khanya Hospice shop volunteer and Pennington resident, Lorraine Wilson raised over R11,000 for the organisation at this year’s East Coast Radio Big Walk.

This was the third consecutive year that Lorraine (49), who is a grandmother, walked on behalf of Khanya Hospice. “The first year I raised R6,000, the second R8,092 and this year R11,011.11,” she said. “The local community and my business partners in Johannesburg sponsor me.”

Lorraine was the 81st woman to cross the 20km finish line and 34th in her age group, in a time of 2 hours, 47 minutes and 22 seconds. “This year’s walk was much cooler than last year, so it was much better,” said Lorraine, who walks for pleasure.

“I’ve always worked with Khanya Hospice and it deserves what it can get. I will definitely do it again next year, as I seem to keep improving.”
