Teen recovers his stolen car

Vehicle was stolen in Doonside in April.

A TEENAGER whose car was stolen in Doonside in April, was involved in the recovery of the vehicle in Prospecton on Wednesday morning, 16 July.

Sylvester Engelbrecht (19) was driving to work with his dad, Johan when he saw a similar shaped Opel Monza, a similar shape in a parking lot in Prospecton Road.

“We stopped and had a look at the car and I realised it was mine.”

They flagged down a passing Metro Police vehicle and while Johan accompanied the police to his home to get details of the theft, Sylvester stayed behind.

As he was waiting, a man jumped into the Opel and attempted to drive off. “I chased after the car, broke the passenger window to stop him. He drove for about 100m before a Metro Police officer stopped him at gunpoint.”

The driver was arrested and taken to Isipingo police station and the car impounded. “I just wanted to stop this guy from getting away,” he said.
