Thieves make off with jackhammer, generator

Hold worker at gunpoint in Gordon Road.

BRAZEN thieves – thought to be part of a returning group who were previously caught for a similar offence – in a blue Citi Golf robbed two workers of tools in Gordon Road, Toti at about 11am on Tuesday, 15 July.

“We were putting up a fence and I dropped off the workers with a generator and jackhammer. They were working about 30m apart. At first the Golf drove past but returned about 30 seconds later,” said JP Joubert of Butler Automation.

The car stopped and one occupant pointed a gun at the worker operating a jackhammer and demanded the tools. They placed the items valued at about R15,000 in the car and drove off. The worker was unharmed.

JP warns contractors to be alert. He advised those using generators to rather place it inside the property with a cable leading out. “I have heard of other similar incidents. It seems as if contractors are becoming soft targets.”
