Soccer reunion co-ordinators lauded

EDITOR – With regards to the Isipingo Soccer Legends reunion dinner and dance, on behalf of the HLVPs and trustees of Isipingo and District Football Association, I would like to forward a congratulatory message on the reunion and to wish the co-ordinators Mark Gounder, Poobalan Govender, Nanda Soobben and Calvin Govender every success on their fundraising dinner/dance on Saturday, 30 August which is to be held at Isipingo Hills hall at 5pm.
The HLVPS and trustees congratulate the initiative, drive and foresight of the co-ordinators in organising this reunion because this occasion brings together officials and players who have served IDFA with aplomp both on and off the soccer pitch. Isipingo and District FA has been the hub of non-racial football for many years and has been vociferous in the injustices meted out to players. Administrators and officials of the calibre of the late Shun David, late Monty Moodley, late Logan David, late Rama Reddy, late RK Naidoo, late M Mannie, late CP Singh, late Roy Reddy, late T Subramany, late Joy Gokul, late Benny Dorsamy, Late Bobby James, late Pat Francis, late Strini Reddy, late ALA Pillay, other officials Vincent Pillay, Harry Naidu, Anver Hassan, Derek Naidoo, Henry Bachoo, Russia Naidoo, PP Chetty, Lenin David, Ruggs Naidoo, Ganny Govender, Siva Naidoo, and KR Sitaram who have fought many battles in the board rooms to promote non-racial soccer during the apartheid era. We have overcome these obstacles and due credit must be accorded to these esteemed gentlemen. We salute them for their contribution to non-racial football.
The evening will also bring together ‘friend and foe’ as the former footballers from the 60’s and 80’s reminiscence about the keenly contested matches on the hallowed turf at Isipingo Beach sports grounds. Much banter will be exchanged and this augurs well for future functions of this nature.
