Liz and team win fours festival at ABC
Happy birthday wishes go to Gert Richter, Bobby Henderson, Nita Meumann, Trudy Hill, Lynn Joubert, Bryan Mudie, Christine Darley and Noreen Butler.
AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club hosted a very successful 75th anniversary mixed fours festival this past weekend.
Fortunately in spite of a cold wind, the rain held off and there were no weather interruptions.
Congratulations to the winning team of Liz Morgan-Davies, Mike Groom, Neville Roscoe and Debbie Groom. The runners-up were Brad Cox, Andrew Walker, Kathy Cox and Stella Erasmus; and in third place were the Wanderers team of Richard Hendicott, Jo Anne Jordaan and Mike and Jackie Freeman. The session winning skips were Paddy O’Brien from Hillary, Peter Callaghan, Greg McLeod, John Mitchley and Dave Gardner with their teams. Every player took home a prize, so thanks to the many sponsors who made this day a success.
Thanks also to the organisers, Liz Morgan-Davies, Glen Scorgie, Neville Roscoe, Mike Groom, Dallas Davis and president Alec Stirzaker, as well as Talla and Lesley Stephens-Viviers who keep the club running so smoothly; Toni and the women in the kitchen; Colin and Owen behind the bar and greenkeeper Mickey Roche and his staff. Dougie Joubert as always made the day extra enjoyable with his music on the greens as well as at the after-party.
Well done Vince Phaal who had a convincing win over Andrew Walker in the semi-final of the men’s handicap singles. He now goes on to meet Alf Bingham in the final on Saturday, 6 September. Other finals taking place on Saturday are the mixed pairs final between Greg McLeod and Marion Crouch, and John and Delysia Mitchley; and the women’s nominated pairs final between Bobby Stewart and Jennifer Greenslade, and Barbara Beamson and Jeanne Alexander, so go along and give these teams your support.
The finals of the women’s nominated pairs between Doreen Salmond and Malinki van der Westhuizen and team mates is also on Saturday afternoon, 6 September.
Watch the board for other club competitions to be completed, as well as Port Natal competitions coming up.
On Friday at the key draw, Liz Morgan-Davies drew out key 98, but unluckily it did not open the box. Why not try your luck this week and buy a ticket? The prize money will be about R4,100. Brenda Mulligan’s tab number three was drawn in the members’ draw but as she was not present, next week’s draw is worth R150. Jackie Holdrick won the 100 board.
Diarise Saturday, 20 September which is the annual AGM. Registration of attendance and voting will begin at 8am and voting will close promptly at 9am. Prize-giving will follow 30 minutes after the closing of the AGM. Committee members, competition winners and runners-up must wear club colours, other members may wear mufti. Members are requested to bring a plate of snacks for after prize giving.
Note Friday, 5 September is men’s Scroungers. Get well to all members who are sick. Happy birthday wishes go to Gert Richter, Bobby Henderson, Nita Meumann, Trudy Hill, Lynn Joubert, Bryan Mudie, Christine Darley and Noreen Butler.
