Double win for bodybuilder
I started gyming in 1999 with no intention of becoming a bodybuilder.
An Isipingo bodybuilder not only won his weight division at the weekend’s SSN Team Universe competition at Sibiya Casino, but also clinched the prestigious overall title.
For Boysie Ngcobo (43) to win the men under 70kg division he had to drop 5kg in three weeks before the competition on Sunday. “It was a very good feeling to win, especially the overall title, weighing under 70kg,” said the strong man. “I had to work harder to win this one, so it was something special.
Winning is nothing new for the personal trainer – in 2010 he won the provincial title and went on to be crowned the SA champ. He also won the Muscle Evolution Grand Prix and Samson’s Classic.
After taking a break from competitions, he again won the provincial title in 2013 and finished fourth at nationals. In August he was provincial runner-up and claimed fifth at SA champs.
“I started gyming in 1999 with no intention of becoming a bodybuilder,” said Boysie. “I think dedication, discipline and my job as a personal trainer, where I have to be an example to my clients, have contributed to my success.”
Boysie’s diet consists of “a lot of fish, chicken fillets, veggies and basmati rice”, which he consumes six to eight times a day.
“My day starts very early – I’m usually up at 3.30am and have my first meal at 4.15am, before my first client at 5am.”
He is now focused on buffing his bod for the Arnold Classic in the USA in March.
“I have never competed overseas. I was invited when I was selected for SA in 2010, but couldn’t make it, so I am now working towards that.”
