Cardinals claims first win of the season
Robert Lewis Walker also managed an assist from short stop to Raymond at first base.

CARDINALS Baseball Club Major A’s took on the Sluggers side on Sunday, 21 September at Hoy Park for the second game of the season's grand challenge.
Last week’s game after the pre-season break turned into the proverbial nightmare, when they lost 16-3 to Hillary Bears and it was evident that there was no risk of peaking too early in the season.
Cardinals capitalised up front with the bat and brought in five runs in the first frame off Tristan Booyens' pitching. Runs were scored by Wesley Merrick, Kyle Storky, Matthew Dancer, David Baker and Jason Carelse. Matthew Larkin then took to the mound and started where he left off last season as the top pitcher of the Major A division, not conceding any runs. He managed six strike outs in his three innings. Sluggers changed pitcher and Glen Cahill managed to stem the run flow and only allowed one run in the next four frames.
Matthew Dancer took over pitching duty from Matthew Larkin and unfortunately three runs were conceded after some fielding errors by Cardinals, with Robert Lewis Walker almost being nominated mare of the match. Fortunately he came to the party with his pitching in the last two frames, keeping it tight and allowing only two runs during his stint, also due to some slip ups by Matthew Larkin who made Raymond Merrick stretch his biltong at first base.
Kyle Storkey and David Baker came home again to add another two runs in for Cardinals, which put the final score at 7-5 for the first victory of the season. Kyle Storkey and David Baker took two excellent catches.
Robert Lewis Walker also managed an assist from short stop to Raymond at first base. Matthew Dancer had three outs to Raymond during his time at short stop and also had an assist to David at third base. Kyle also took an out at second base and Matthew Larkin managed two assists to Raymond when he was at short stop. The mare of the match went to Bevon Merrick for his 3 K’s at bat which gave all those that slipped up in the fielding department a huge reprieve.
