SPIRITS were high as more than 150 senior citizens gathered at Tabor Hall at Mooi Hawens for the annual Golden Oldies Games, which were held over three days from Tuesday, 30 September to Thursday, 2 October.
On Tuesday, the five participating teams, Residentia, Poinsettia Park, Jabulani, Ezimangweni and a community team were kitted out in their colourful attire and egged each other on with songs of glory.
Proceedings kicked off with the beautiful voices of the Poinsettia Park choir, who also sang a specially-penned song for the Games. This was followed-up with the first game, the ‘duck walk’ where participants had to hold a large ball between their knees and two smaller balls under their arms and walk a distance of several metres to hand over to a team mate. There was much laughter and hilarity as some made it across on the first try, while others had to head back to the start line as they had dropped the balls. More games followed until about 11am.
Wednesday saw the seniors strut their stuff in fancy dress, with many of them having gone to town, with amazing costumes.
The Games conclude today (Thursday).
