THREE men were arrested on Wednesday morning, 1 October for planning to commit a business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
“The Durban Organised Crime Unit received information from a source of a planned business robbery in Folweni on the outskirts of Toti. Along with the National Intervention Unit, an operation was conducted, a vehicle was intercepted and the men were arrested,” said Col Jay Naicker of the KZN police media centre.
Following further investigation, four unlicensed firearms, an AK47 and three 9mm pistols were recovered in Umlazi. A Toyota Corolla which was stolen in Isipingo was also recovered during the operation. They are due to appear in the Umlazi Magistrate’s Court soon.
Provincial commissioner, Lt Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended police for their efforts in fighting crime. “Every day our police officers come under fire when they confront criminals, but this will not deter
us from carrying out our mandate to fight crime. If anything, it just spurs us on to fight crime in a more firm manner,” she said.
