She also received a bronze medal in the national police fitness programme.

A TOTI policewoman showed off her athletics prowess in a national competition and earned a silver medal for her efforts.

Cst NY Mdubeki was was one of 15 police officials selected to represent KZN SAPS in the SAPS national athletics championships held in the Western Cape on Saturday, 18 October.

All nine provinces were represented at the event.

She participated in a 21km race, Voet Van Africa Marathon of which the first 8km is on the road and the rest off-road. She finished in 1:46. “This was my first time participating in this race. It was difficult, but I enjoyed every moment. It was like running a cross-country race,” said Cst Mdubeki.

She also received a bronze medal in the national police fitness programme.

Cst Mdubeki is attached to the social crime prevention component at Toti, where she performs her duties five days a week from 7am to 4pm and still finds time to train after work. She is a member of SAPS Striders and in the past year has been selected three times to represent KZN SAPS at national level.

“I only started running three years ago while undergoing my basic training at the Oudtshoorn Police Academy and have not stopped since. I would love to see more police officials, young and old, participate in sports and follow a healthy way of living. I thank everyone at my station and my teammates of SAPS Striders for their continued support.”
