An alleged housebreaker was shot after he stabbed a Prevention Organisation (CCPO) guard in Almond Road on Sunday night, 30 November.
According to CCPO operations manager, Leon Joone, they received a call at about 11pm to say a suspect was on site in a complex in Smythe Road in Warner Beach.
“CCPO and SAPS members attended the complaint,” said Leon. “The surrounding area was patrolled and searched. Foot patrol guards were left in the area to hold observation. A man was spotted by these guards, who directed CCPO supervisor, Jason Hewitt and his crew to a side street off Almond Road.
They spotted the suspect jumping into a property in Almond Road.
The suspect ran towards one of our guards, Hendrik Nxumalo and stabbed him in the left arm. They struggled and the guard managed to draw his firearm and the suspect sustained a gunshot wound in the struggle.”
The man was subdued.
“The CCPO member is fine after receiving treatment. W/O De Bruin and detective Erasmus and other members from Toti SAPS responded immediately and the criminal was handed over to them.
Cellphones were recovered on the alleged thief, which were taken from another break-in. Police are investigating further.
“Well done to all involved, Toti SAPS, Blue Security and the CCPO,” said Leon.
“This is another great joint effort. Night ops have been carried out in that area for the past week and we finally have results.”
