Free seminars at industrial technology expo

Visitors can expect to analyse and compare the best industrial technology on the market, all under one roof.

VISITORS to this year’s KZN Industrial Technology Exhibition (KITE) will be treated to a range of fascinating talks by leaders in the industrial field, all free of charge.

This is the 16th edition of this highly influential trade show which is running at the Durban Exhibition Centre from 9 to 12 June.

Visitors can expect to analyse and compare the best industrial technology on the market, all under one roof.

The introduction of the seminar series at the previous edition of the exhibition proved hugely successful with audiences. Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery, the show organisers, have committed to ensuring visitors will experience the same high quality talks covering a range of topics.

“We had an overwhelming response to the 2013 seminars and felt it necessary to bring this popular feature back this year,” said Gary Corin, managing director at Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery. “Visitors will once again be able to engage with exhibitors who will be showcasing a range of industrial and related products and services, while also getting the chance to attend any of the informative seminars.”

The free 45-minute talks will be held throughout the exhibition and are open to all attendees with no advance booking necessary. The SAIMechE Seminar Theatre series is intended to inspire and motivate guests while encouraging discussion on topical industrial issues. Speakers at this year’s event will include representatives from government, CEOs, managers and engineers for top industrial corporations.

This year’s programme will start on Tuesday morning with an update from the Department of Labour on occupational health and safety, highlighting its role in assisting industry leaders with employment creation, labour relations and eliminating inequality and discrimination in the workplace. This will be followed by a talk by the KZN Sustainable Energy Forum on developing the sustainable energy sector in the province.

Other highlights on the seminar agenda include ‘Trade and investment opportunities in KZN’, ‘A sustainable road to power efficiency’, ‘The effects of loadshedding on the South African manufacturing sector’ and ‘Bridging industry and education – building productivity’, among many others.

For the first time this year, all the information about this year’s KITE is just a click through the extremely user-friendly mobile app. Using the app, visitors can access lists of products and services scheduled for the event while helpful alerts will let them know any breaking news about the event.

The theme for this year is ‘innovation through technology’ which will see exhibitors showcasing groundbreaking technological examples including robotics, chemical and plastic technologies, electrical and electronic technologies, engineering supplies, information and communication technologies, logistics and supply chain management, mechanical and materials handling technologies, automation and electronics, safety, health and environmental technologies.
