Armed robbers followed a Shulton Park resident to her home from the bank and robbed her of a large sum of cash on Saturday afternoon, 13 June.
Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson said two robbers followed the customer, who just had drawn cash at the bank, to her Morewood Drive home at about 12.20pm.
“The robbers, who were driving a silver Volvo S40, held the customer at gunpoint as she entered her driveway, took the cash and fled. There were no injuries during the incident,” he said.
Toti SAPS attended the scene of the crime.
Jackson said the armed robbery was the second involving a silver Volvo over the past two days. A Pinetown man was also held up at gunpoint and robbed after a gang of three men followed him home on Friday afternoon, he said.
Jackson advised bank customers and business owners to rather use EFT payments if possible and to be aware of their surroundings when withdrawing cash.
“Criminals observe the movements and routines of their victims closely, but crimes are also often opportunistic. A good defence against becoming a target is to always be aware of your surroundings and the people around you, especially in potentially vulnerable circumstances,” he said.
Jackson advised bank customers not to draw cash alone and to drive to the nearest police station and call their security company if they suspected they were being followed after visiting the bank.
