Khanya Hospice was one of the recipients of 10 blankets that were ‘made with love, stitch by stitch’ for Mandela Day.
The blankets were donated by members of the Knit Wits organisation who live in Toti and surroundings.
There are knit wits in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, the UK and Jordan and they all participated in a worldwide project to hand-knit blankets to keep thousands of people warm during this winter in the name of Nelson Mandela.
These blankets were part of a huge display at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
“His legacy lives on in each blanket they produced with their own two hands,” said CEO of Khanya Hospice, Neil McDonald.
Each blanket is labelled individually with a red heart and the words ’67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day’.
“They are about 180cm by 150cm, in various colours and are most beautiful,” said Neil. “This is a act of love, as this is hours and hours of work.
Hospice will be able to donate these blankets to our patients in need and those who are less fortunate.”
