Vehicle thief tries to force police off the road

Driver will be charged with attempted murder, theft and possession of suspected stolen property

A motorist who tried to force an Amanzimtoti patrol van off the KwaMakhutha Road at about 9pm last night (Thursday, 6 August) was arrested and will be charged with attempted murder, theft and possession of suspected stolen property.

Police were patrolling when they spotted the vehicle and instructed the driver to stop.

However he attempted to outrun police and tried to force the police vehicle off the road. Police opened fire on the vehicle’s tyres and forced the driver to stop. The vehicle was seized by police and the driver was arrested and detained at Amanzimtoti police station.

The suspect will be charged for attempted murder, theft of motor vehicle and possession of suspected stolen property. He will appear in Durban Magistrates Court soon. Further investigation will be conducted to determine whether the suspect is involved in other cases.
