Staff from Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom and enthusiastic pupils and teachers from Strelitzia Secondary School in Lotus Park area teamed up for a morning of digging and learning about trees in commemoration of Arbour Day.
The casino sponsored 10 indigenous trees, which were planted at the school.
The HODs of the school were so appreciative of this small gesture, the casino decided to donate 20 more trees for their sports field.
“As we are an underprivileged school in the Durban South community, any donations are welcomed with open arms. We are ever-grateful to Sibaya Casino for what they have done. On behalf of the staff and pupils, we thank the casino for this donation and look forward to working as a team in the future,” said principal, M Harricand.
Arbour Week, which takes place from 1 to 7 September, serves to generate awareness of the devastating effects of deforestation and urbanisation to the environment, with the aim to encourage South Africans to do their bit to help replenish what has been lost by planting more trees.
