UMBOGINTWINI Primary School is in the final stages of preparation for its upcoming stage production, ‘Jika’.
The show is based on ‘Footloose’ and has a cast of 51, made up of grade 6 and 7 pupils.
The lead characters are ‘Sam’ played by Asanda Hlophe and ‘Asiphe’ played by Nomaswazi Sithole.
The producers are Kayleigh Eustice and Jenna Shaw.
“The storyline revolves around Sam, a dancing king from Johannesburg who moves to Toti and learns dancing is not allowed at his new school. Sam can’t believe this, so with the help of his new friends, he takes on the school’s governing body to try and change the rules,” said Jenna.
The school holds a musical every two years as a fundraising event.
Rehearsals for ‘Jika’ started at the beginning of the year and the cast holds two 45 minute practises a week.
