Learn to speak Zulu

Classes start next week.

THE Siyakhuluma Project, a Durban-based non-profit organisation is launching its beginners isiZulu course for adults at Kingsway High School in the fourth school term.

It will be held on Wednesdays and starts on 14 October and concludes on 2 December. The classes are from 6.30pm to 7.45pm.

The teacher is UKZN lecturer, Mrs Khumalo. The cost is R650 per person.

The course work covers:
* The cultural aspects of the Zulu people and their language, the greetings and its cultural difference.

* How to introduce yourself and make cultural specific conversations. (What’s your name? Where do you work? What do you do?).

* How to make polite requests at a petrol station or shops. The course work is set in themes an uses relevant language use in the KZN context.

* Basic sentence structure. How to form simple practical sentences.

* The IsiZulu phonetics; clicks and obstruents.

* The eight noun classes of isiZulu which are important to understand when learning a Bantu language.
