Cricket community bats for George

He will be presented with a Community Hero Award on Tuesday, 17 November.

POPULAR sportsman and legendary crime fighter, George Snodey will undergo more facial surgery on Friday, 20 November.

This will be a few days after he is presented with a Community Hero Award.

The complex operation to restore proper functioning of his right eye will involve the collaboration of several specialist surgeons.

George, owner of George’s Seconds and Turnmore Traders, is making a slow but steady recovery from a near fatal motor vehicle crash six weeks ago. A fundraising drive to assist self-employed George is well underway.

Richard Andersson, past chairman of the Amanzimtoti Cricket Club, has added his support. “I would like to urge all members, past and present, to support the fundraising drive in aid of our stalwart George Snodey. He was an enthusiastic member of the club for upwards of 30 years, playing primarily in the 2nd XI and in latter years, never one to miss out on a Golden Oldies tour, of which there were many nationally.

He was an opening bowler who had the pace of a spinner, but fooled many a batsman with his slinging action, picking up wickets on a regular basis. A lower order batsman in the ‘six or sticks’ mould, unfortunately he didn’t bother the scorers too often. He was an ever reliable club member. Get well soon old friend, we look forward to seeing you in and around the club in the near future.”

The community is invited to attend the Community Hero Award ceremony on Tuesday, 17 November at Amanzimtoti Sports Centre (ASC) at Hutchison Park at 6pm.

ASC will sponsor the venue and Lords and Legends has offered to provide light snacks and nibbles, with a cash bar available. To assist with catering, those wishing to attend the ceremony are requested to RSVP to mysapphirecommunity@gmail.com.
