Support ‘big bleed’ this Friday

Head down to the Toti library activities room.

THE South African National Blood Service (SANBS) will hold a ‘big bleed’ in the Amanzimtoti Civic Centre library activities room on Friday, 6 November between noon and 6pm.

“Our target is 100 donors. As the clinic is a promotional big bleed, we will give away a token of appreciation to all donors who donate blood on the day. We will also have a lucky draw competition where one lucky donor will win our grand prize,” said SANBS PRO, Mohamed Goolam.

The community is urged to support the clinic.

Research has shown that SANBS requires more regular blood donors to consistently meet the country’s demand for blood. Regular donors are required to donate blood every 56 days, therefore donating three to four times a year. Regular blood donors are the safest donors, simply because they become more familiar with donor requirements and gain a better understanding of SANBS’s education processes and ultimately have an awareness of what risk behaviour entails.

Minimum requirements to be a donor:

  • Be between the ages of 16 and 65 years.
  • Weigh more than 50kg.
  • Be in good health.
  • Live a sexually safe lifestyle.
