Raid nets illegal gun

The firearm will be circulated to establish if it was stolen or used to commit a crime.

AN illegal firearm was recovered and a 40-year-old man arrested in KwaMakhutha on Sunday evening, 13 December.

The success was due to an operation by the National Mobile Train Unit which conducted a raid on illegal firearms in Bhekithemba, Folweni, Umbumbulu and KwaMakhutha.

“The man was arrested for possession of a Norinco pistol with three live rounds of ammunition. The firearm will be circulated to establish if it was stolen or used to commit a crime in the province,” said provincial police spokesman, Maj Thulani Zwane.

KZN police commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended police for their hard work this festive season. “We want to assure the community of this province and visitors that we will do everything in our power to protect them this festive season. We also want their co-operation to ensure our province is a safe place to be. More of such operations including high visibility, tracing wanted suspects and roadblocks will be conducted throughout this festive season,” she said.
