Motorists urged to avoid N2 southbound near Umgababa

A Road Traffic Inspectorate officer based at Winklespruit has died after being hit by a taxi this afternoon (Wednesday, 10 February).

Reports from the scene indicate that the officer and his colleagues were conducting operations on the N2 southbound near Umgababa when he allegedly ran out to signal for a taxi to stop. The taxi apparently failed to stop and struck the RTI official.

He was pronounced dead by provincial ambulance services personnel who responded to the scene. The crash site has attracted a large contingent of high-ranking RTI officials. Avoid the N2 southbound at Umgababa this afternoon, if possible.
